Welcome to the Beverley Passion Website
The churches of Beverley are putting on this Passion Play to present the events of the last week of Jesus’ life. We have relied solely on the Bible to produce the script and, whilst it is impossible to present everything that occurred in those final days, we have selected key moments to give an impression of the events as they unfolded.
Jerusalem some 2000 years ago was a town like Beverley with market traders, visitors, soldiers and locals all intermingling. We hope that all who watch will get a real sense of what it would have been like to witness these events first-hand.
Please explore the site to find out about the production, the history of its development and more about those who are involved.
If you are considering staging a Passion Play of your own we would be glad to share our experiences so please do get in touch. Otherwise please let us know what you think of the site [and the play!] via the feedback page.
We hope you will be able to join us on Friday 6th April for the Beverley Passion 2012.
The performance takes about 40 minutes but involves many months of preparation and then co-ordinated action on the day. The role of stewards, costumiers and set technicians is as valuable as the leading actors in making sure everything runs smoothly.
History of the Passion Play
The churches in Beverley have worked closely together for many years and traditionally have had an open air event on Good Friday in which a cross is carried through the town and a short service is held at the Market Cross.
